Charles Darwin (1809-1882) was an English naturalist, geologist and biologist. He was the naturalist on the voyage of the H.M.S. Beagle from 1831 to 1836. During that voyage, Darwin researched and collected samples of plants, animals, minerals, fossils, many for the first time, to develop a better understanding of the natural environments and impact on living things. The information from this voyage provided a life's work of research, papers and books. This book is a compilation of the 1844 publication of "Geological Observations on the Volcanic Islands" and the 1846 book of "Observations on South America". His more well known book, "The Origin of Species", published in 1859, caused a fundamental shift in "... the origin of man and his history." This refocused his work, for the remainder of his life, on evolution of species and is still debated today.
