John Haskell Kemble (1912-1990) was a History professor at Pomona College in California and a maritime historian. His books focus on maritime history in the Pacific and specifically to California in the mid-1800s. This book is a reprint of the 1943 edition printed by the University of California, Berkeley.
Stephen Ingersoll Zetterberg (1916-2009) was a Southern California Attorney, local government and Democratic activist. He is remembered as being defeated by Congressman Richard Nixon in the 1948 Democratic primary.
