Frank La Roche (1853-1934) was a Seattle photographer that produced many of the iconic photographs of the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, the Klondike gold rush, California and others. He framed the images to tell a story, show action and movement for the viewer. He sold individual prints and produced many albums. This is one of several focused on the Klondike gold rush and were designed to be informative guides to the prospector with extensive captions.
