Vilhjalmur Stefansson [1879-1962] was a Canadian Arctic explorer and ethnologist. He had a long career in Arctic studies and was an advisor to many governments on the development of the Arctic. From the Arctic Bibliography, this book is about the "Development of the thesis that man has steadily pushed his way from his original habitat in the tropics farther and farther to the North." Stefansson discusses the misconceptions, the habitat and the resources of the Arctic. He also touches on Climate change with the increasing temperatures of the world will continue to allow for development of the Arctic.
