Other Services - Appraisals and Valuations

In addition to selling books, we can provide other book related services such as  appraisal valuations for insurance or estate, assistance on developing a collection and cataloguing, assistance on selling a collection and commission sales. We do not perform IRS appraisals for donation purposes.  Please contact us to discuss further.

Selling to Us - We Buy Books and accept Consignments

We are always interested in buying collectible individual titles in the areas of interest listed on the Browse page.  We will consider consignments of books with terms depending on type and value.  For both buying and consignments, the items must be in very good or better condition, and or have a significant provenance.   We do not buy entire collections, encyclopedias or large multi-volume works outside of our areas of interest.   Please contact us to discuss.

Terms of Sales

All items offered online or in catalogues are subject to prior sale.  We strive to keep the online lists up to date.  If an item that you are interested in has been sold, we may be able to find another copy for you.  Please contact us to discuss.

We strive to describe all of the items accurately and to meet ABAA and IOBA professional standards.  If you are unsure of the description or have other questions, please contact us.   

Trade discounts for most items are available, please contact us.

Payments

We accept PayPal and major credit cards – Visa, Mastercard, American Express which are processed through Square. We will accept checks from persons known to us, and purchase orders from institutions.  We will also invoice to clients or trade known to us. We will generally ship after payment has been received and checks cleared.

The appropriate California district sales tax will be charged unless you have a valid resale certificate on file with us or otherwise exempt.  Online sales with delivery in California will be subject to the buyer’s local sales tax rate.  For Book Fairs, the local sales tax, if applicable, will be charged for books sold and taken at the fair site.

The online payment information is secure using the latest encryption to protect your information.  The credit card information is not saved on file.  If you prefer, you can contact us by phone to arrange for payment.

Returns

All books ordered online are returnable for any reason within 14 days of receipt, as long as they are returned in the same condition.  Buyer will be responsible for return shipping, unless item is not as described.  Please contact us if you are returning the book to let us know or for advice on packing.  We will issue a refund to you in the same method as you paid or by check.

For European Union customers, as required by EU regulations on the 14-day Right of Withdrawal of their transaction, the withdrawing buyer is responsible for paying all shipping, tariffs, charges, and fees incurred by both the buyer and the seller in returning the item. Upon receipt of the returned item, we will refund the price of the item and the original charge of shipping.

Shipping

All books will be carefully wrapped and securely packed to avoid any shipping hazards or damage.  We strive to have the book arrive in the same condition as it was packed. Please let us know if the package arrives with visible damage, and send images that show the damage.

Free media mail shipping in the Continental United States for orders over $100.  For orders under $100, Media Mail charges are $10.00 for the first item and $2.50 for each additional item. Depending on shipping location, USPS ground advantage may be used.

Shipping is recommended by USPS priority or ground advantage  mail with shipments East of the Mississippi at $ 20.00 and West of the Mississippi at $15.00.  For heavier items and multiple item orders,  additional shipping charges may be required. Shipping will include tracking and insurance for higher cost items., with signature of delivery required. 

For International shipping, we will use the best available shipping method and charges will be at cost.  Any brokerage fees, customs duties, VAT or other international shipment fees are the responsibility of the Buyer. If packages are unclaimed and refunds issued, then the shipping charge will be retained by the seller.

For Shipments to GermanyDavid Spilman Fine Books is registered at the Packaging Register of the Stiftung Zentrale Stelle Verpackungsregister (Foundation Central Agency Packaging Register – ZSVR) with registration number DE1440536773101.  Our Dual System Licensing partner for the collection, sorting & recycling of the packaging is ACTIVATE by RECLAY.

David Spilman Fine Books encourages reuse of the packaging materials and all received packaging is disposed of in the right recycling containers, Blue for all paper & cardboard and Yellow for all plastics.
