In the preface, the Bluejacket’s Manual was originally written in 1902 and was revised in 1914, 1916, 1922, 1927, 1938 and 1939 to meet the changing needs of the United States during the build up to entry into World War II in December, 1941. It was designed to be a comprehensive manual for all of the subjects that navy seaman needed to know, including how to blow a Boatswain’s Call or Pipe.
