This book is a series of 18 articles printed during the period of January 9 to July 3, 1853 on the beginning of the American conquest of California of 1845-1847. The author of the articles signed as “Filings”, which the editor, Potter, suggest evidence as Joseph Downey, who disappeared after 1853.
