A. C. Harris was a traveler and writer that wrote an extensive and early account of the Klondike gold rush. The book contains promotional and practical information on traveling to the Yukon and Alaska gold fields. There are many quotes from miners and other promoting the area and the abundance of gold to be found. It was a very popular book that was sold by subscription through multiple publishers. This book is an "expanded' edition that was issued later in 1897, and includes a new chapter "Advent of Winter" which adds confirmation of earlier claims of wealth and information on the difficulties of winter travel.

From Kurutz, "Although not a miner himself, he loaded his narrative with dozens of quotations from men and women in the Klondike whose opinions and experiences no doubt influenced thousands of would-be fortune hunters. As mentioned in the title, Harris's book features the experiences of such notables as Mrs. Eli Gage [Eli Gage was an officer in an Yukon trading company and provide one of the first reports of gold], Mrs. Frederick Schwatka [wife of an Army officer and explorer of Northern Canada and Alaska], and Joaquin Miller [Cincinnatus Heiene Miller, "Poet of the Sierras"]. . . . Harris covered every major aspect of the Klondike, including routes, mining methods, miner' laws, outfits, transportation, weather, health, saloons, dance halls, and indigenous peoples."
